Two and a Half Men may be put on hold

Charlie Sheen, the Two and a Half Men star, who was charged last week with felony menacing and two lesser counts, could put the future of his CBS series in jeopardy if he goes to jail.

7th Annual TV Land Awards - Show

The charges stem from a Christmas Day incident in Aspen, Colo., in which Sheen’s wife, Brooke Mueller, claims he held a knife to her neck and threatened her life.

Sheen has denied the charges but he did not enter a plea last week. Out on bail, he must appear in court on March 15. The issue is that if he is convicted he could face three years in prison.

Two and a Half Men’s producers could probably juggle the rest of this season’s production schedule to accommodate Sheen as he prepares his defense but if he goes to jail the series future is uncertain.

Without knowing Sheen’s fate, CBS will likely have to announce a fall schedule that depends on Sheen taping the series, which grabs an average of nearly 15 million viewers per week. It could also cost the network cash, as advertisers may be deterred from paying top dollar for commercials.

Just yesterday, we reported that Mueller checked into rehab, putting her credibility in the case in jeopardy because she had been drinking before she called 911 on Christmas Day.

In 2008, a TV Guide survey placed Sheen as the highest-paid actor on TV, making $825,000 per episode, or nearly $20 million per year.
