Michael Jackson’s doctor, Dr. Conrad Murray entered a court in LA today believing he was defending his right to practice medicine in California. Michael’s family are attending the session including Joe, Katherine, Janet, Randy, and Jermaine.
After a court room switch which left many media outlets scrambling, Judge Pastor (who will be the judge in the manslaughter trial) decided to postpone making a decision on Dr. Murray’s medical license until the June 14th trial date.
A group of Michael Jackson supporters were outside the court chanting they wanted justice for MJ. After the proceedings were finished, the Jackson family left the courtroom. This is only the beginning of what will surely be a media circus.
In order to ensure full disclosure, Judge Michael Pastor told lawyers for both sides he was appointed to the bench by Attorney General Jerry Brown back in 1983 when Brown was governor of California. Brown is the one requesting Dr. Murray lose his license. The judge also revealed that he had once written a Letter of Recommendation for prosecutor David Walgren, who is looking to become a judge.
Pastor said he doesn’t think either issue will affect his judgment.
We kept live updates going while the proceedings were taking place and plan to provide updates as the legal proceedings begin over the next many months.
Here is an example of what was noted during the proceedings.
Update: Dr. Murray and everyone involved have been told to go to another floor to another court. We will keep you posted as soon as we know what is going on. The move was to Judge Pastor’s courtroom so all the parties are headed there. Judge Pastor is the judge who is supposed to reside over Dr. Murray’s manslaughter trial and now may decide whether he keeps his medical license.
We have just learned that the judge has disclosed that he wrote a letter of recommendation for the prosecutor who wants to become a judge. He said he is not friendly with the prosecutor and it will not effect his decisions at all.
Update: The judge will not revoke Dr. Murray’s license at this time. He is putting it off until June 14th hearing set for 12:30 PM.
Michael Jackson fans waited outside the courtroom wanting justice for what they see as complete medical incompetence on the part of Dr. Murray. Murray’s team argues that without the funds coming from his practice, he cannot mount a proper defense.
