Larry King is hanging up his suspenders as he announced to the world via Twitter and his show last night that he will be leaving as of the fall. After ratings dropped to half what they had been in 2008, speculation mounted that the late night King was going to step down after the 25th anniversary specials.

Larry had been in the news a lot recently with his pending divorce, affair accusations and reported suicide attempt by his wife. Now citing the need to do other things and spend more time with the family, Larry had a brave face on TV last night while he interviewed Bill Maher.

He is a fixture to night TV but it does seem to be time for someone to take the 9 p.m. CNN spot. It is not the only change coming to CNN who has also seen their rating plummet over the last year or so.
