Elizabeth Edwards dies

Elizabeth Edwards died in her home in North Carolina today only days after doctors advised her to stop her cancer treatment. The world learned only yesterday about the turn of events so her death comes as a shock to many.

Elizabeth was 61-year-old Elizabeth, was married to former presidential candidate John Edwards although separated. Reports say she was surrounded by friends and family in recent days including John himself.

Just yesterday, Elizabeth posted a goodbye message on her Facebook page which read, “The days of our lives, for all of us, are numbered. We know that. And yes, there are certainly times when we aren’t able to muster as much strength and patience as we would like. It’s called being human.”

“But I have found that in the simple act of living with hope, and in the daily effort to have a positive impact in the world, the days I do have are made all the more meaningful and precious. And for that, I am grateful.”

She became a figure of sympathy as she battled breast cancer and dealt with her husband’s infidelity.

She and John Edwards separated at the beginning of 2010 but remained close.
